Case 1

The four C's for 21st-century skills are Creativity, Collaboration, Critical thinking, and Communication.  Integrating technology into all of these skills will help with making these a lot easier to accomplish. The student as an innovative designer basically involves using technology to solve problems, which goes right along with thinking critically. If for example, a student has a particular idea but can't showcase it on their own, they can use the help of technology to explain it. Perhaps they are doing a science project and need to demonstrate how they would accomplish what they want to do, the student can use a designing website to draw out and animate the experiment to explain how it will be completed. Using technology such as google docs to collaborate helps to give students the freedom to complete their project whenever without necessarily being there with the person they are collaborating with. With Google docs, you have the option of working on it anytime and at any place, and it gives teachers the ability to see who did what on the specific assignment. Google docs also correlate with communication, a student can share a document with their peers and teacher and they have the option to let them comment on their work. This helps them to give pointers and communicate with them on that given subject. When teachers allow students to be creative with the assignments they have to do they have a lot more freedom with using different platforms within technology. Students, for example, can use Prezi to make a more digitally advanced powerpoint, or other students could use Wix and create a website that students can visit to learn more about that particular project.
Some attributes that I think a teacher should have are being flexible and giving students some freedom. If a teacher is flexible, they are more open to new ideas which would give students the option to use different technology based things with school. For example, students might want to use their computers to explore the internet on a certain subject they are learning in school. If the teacher is flexible they wouldn't mind that the students want to do this and they would most likely let them use the internet. This also correlates with giving the students freedom. If the students are to complete a final project and they are free to do it on any platform they like, for example, they might want to make an iMovie to explain what they have learned. Giving the students freedom also helps to keep them more interested in what they are doing if they get to do it the way they want to. My English professor last semester had all of these attributes, which resulted in making the class a lot more enjoyable. She taught my English class and let us do whatever we wanted for the final project as long as she approved it. We got to decide what area we would like to showcase and how we wanted to present it. I am really into social media so for my class I decided to create an Instagram page with posts that the characters would've written to show what I learned. It was a lot of fun to create because it was something that I like to do and that I am good at. It made the class a lot more fun because of the fact that everyone's final was different and we got to learn different things in different ways.

Thoughts About Theme

The theme that I chose for this course is technology and assistive technology for learning and in-class activities. My major is Early Childhood Education and Exceptional Needs, which is in the College of Health and Human Sciences. With my major, I have quite a few options on what career path I can take once I graduate. For the most part, I know that I want to be an elementary teacher, but I would also love to teach special education. Either way, expanding my knowledge of technology, especially assistive technology would really help me to further my learning and add to helping me with my future career of being a teacher. I think that assistive technology is especially important because it is used to help children use their strengths to help them to accomplish things that they wouldn't be able to do like other children. This theme is an especially important topic to me because of the fact that technology is something that is growing so very quickly and is used in everyday life. Tec...

Case 2

In my opinion, I believe that ubiquitous access should impact teaching and learning. Without immediate access to the internet, we are limiting our ability to learn new things and broaden the way we both teach and learn. Giving the students the ability to use the internet in class and have ubiquitous access can help them to understand certain things better and have more fun with what they are doing. Completing activities the same way every school day and doing homework, all the same, would get boring. As would listening to a teacher lecture all day long. With access to the internet and all the great things that it encompasses, students have the ability to learn, complete and think a completely different way than they did before. There are a ton of platforms that are useful in school. For example, when I was in middle school I did not have a teacher teach me math. I learned and completed all of my math homework and tests on an app called Aleks. It was a whole new way of learning and...
